To perform this task well, system administrators should be familiar with the hardware specifications of all computers in their organization.

They should also have excellent troubleshooting skills as well as knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP to detect network connectivity issues promptly. Moreover, they must have strong ethical conduct when dealing with hackers or other security risks that threaten the organization’s data. 

System administrators must keep their skills sharp by regularly updating their knowledge in computer science and IT. Most employers expect system administrators to have at least a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a relevant field such as information technology management.

They also need to be proficient with command line interfaces such as PowerShell or Linux shell for performing more complicated tasks efficiently.
